[Alice filed for her husband's military pension on 30 Jun 1881 (VA) and 10 Dec 1900 (VA).]

"Oliver Hazard Perry Addleman (1841, Blue) may have been one of the first Addlemans from Clearfield Co., PA, to go to Virginia. In a Civil War document, Memorandum from Prisoner of War Records, No. 280, Perry Addleman was described as having been "captured at Chancellorsville, VA, May 3, 1863; confined at Richmond, Va, May 9, 1863; [and] paroled at City Point, VA, May 14, 1863. [He] reported to Camp Parole, MD, May 16, 1863 [and was] sent to convalescent Camp, Va, May 20/63. [He] enrolled as Perry Addleman, Company K, 84th Regiment, PA Volunteers." Other military records show he originally enrolled at the age of 20 and for three years on 23 Jul 1862, 'mustered in' on 16 Aug 1862, and was discharged on 31 May 1865. Pension records, claim No. 423149, indicated he married twice. The first marriage was to Charlotte Tozer on 22 Nov 1868 (probably in PA), who passed away on 26 Oct 1871. The second marriage was to Alice Scott, daughter of William and Betty Scott, in Buckingham Co., VA, on 26 Jun 1879. Perry was the oldest son of Andrew Jackson Addleman (1814, Blue).

"PERRY ADDLEMAN, well known in Clearfield county, where he was born, (in Lawrence township at Centre), and where he lived the early part of his life, died at his home in Buckingham county, Va, Oct 23, 190, at the age of 59 years, 1 month and 10 days. It is now 30 years since he moved to his Southern home. He was a member of Capt. Matthew Ogden's Company of the 84th Reg. Pa. Inf. Vol. and served his full time. He was a brave and dutiful soldier at all times. Perry Addleman was a brother of Mrs. THOMAS McPHERSON of Lawrence township and Mrs. MAUD TOZER, of LaJose, Pa. He was a good citizen and leaves a widow and six children to mourn the death of a loving and considerate husband and father.

"Another son of Andrew's, ANDREW JACKSON ADDLEMAN (1860), had a frightening story told about him when he was almost buried alive. The story was originally told by Andrew's niece, Maria Hurt. "He realized that he was lying in a coffin and he could hear people talking near him. There were voices that he recognized. He could not open his eyes, speak, or move but he knew if he didn't do something, he would be buried alive. His hands were laid across his chest and he gradually moved one far enough so the arm fell to his side. Someone noticed the arm and replaced it on his chest. In despair, he struggled until he moved it far enough to fall again. This time, people realized he was still alive and removed him from the coffin. Later, he told about those agonizing minutes of helplessness [Dottie Algea]."

"Two lines of Addlemans (Blue & Green) are connected to Felix Hughes (1723-1805), who lived in Loudoun Co., VA, was in the Revolutionary War and died in Greene Co., PA. ". . . Felix & Cynthia (Kaighn) Hughes, natives of Donegal, Ireland, . . . settled in VA about 1739 [Tenmile Country, 1977: p. 205]." One son, THOMAS (1749-1823), perhaps better known than his father, was a Major of the Frontier Rangers in the Revolutionary War and died in Jefferson Twp., Greene Co., PA. One descendant was Ella O'Neil (1872), who married John Shape (ca 1868), son of Patience Addleman (Greene) and Samuel Shape. Another son, JAMES, also served in the Rev. War (verified by DAR). "James married Cassandra Dunn . . . and had a daughter, Mary [Jessie Eleanor Algea letter, 1988]." Mrs. Jessie (Dottie) Addleman Algea (1921, Blue) has her membership in the "DAR from Jessie Claire Connelly (1898-1941) through Felix Hughes."
