STROHMEIER ALLIED FAMILY

Edward Strohmeier born 23 Dec 1854 (Kentucky) and died in 1924 in OK or KS; m Fostina Lee 22 Nov 1876 in Buffalo at the home of her parents (born 11 June 1859, Buffalo, Scott County, Iowa and died 3 March 1930 at Medford, Grant Co, Oklahoma), children:

Lee Jacob b. 4 Nov 1878 in Buffalo, Scott Co, Iowa;  d. Dec 6, 1944 in Wichita

Myrtle Bell b. 5 April 1881 Andalusia;  d. 12 Feb 1952 Los Angeles Co, CA

Minnie Alta b. 14 Feb 1883 Andalusia;  d. 10 Jan 1949 Supply, OK

 Wesley Worth b. 9 Oct 1887 Andalusia;  d. 24 March 1957 Glendora, CA

Ivy Iola b. 11 Dec 1888 Andalusia;  d. 29 Jan 1952 Santa Anna, California

Ralph William b. 2 Feb 1891 Andalusia;  d. 21 Jly 1964 Witchita, KS

Rex Ray b. 1 April 1896 Medford, Grant Co, OK;  d. Feb 2, 1961 Glendora, CA

Notes: "Fostina was born 11 June 1859, Buffalo, Scott County, Iowa and died 3 March 1930 at Medford, Grant Co, Oklahoma.  She married Edward 22 Nov 1876 in Buffalo at the home of her parents.Edward was born 23 Dec 1854 in Kentucky and died in 1924 although I'm not sure if he died in . He was still living in OK in 1920 even though he and Fostina had divorced by then.  Both are buried at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Wellington, Sumner Co, KS.  They are buried in a 4 plot site with Priscilla Lee buried in one site and Wm "Lester" Lee buried in the other.  (They are head-to-head with Fostina and Edward).  If I remember right, one of the son's of Ivy Strohmeier owned the plots at the cemetery, but I would have to double check to be sure.

Edward and Fostina went to OK for the land runs there in Indian Territory.  I believe she returned to Iowa with the probate of her father's estate in 1900 - her signature is on the papers.  When it was settled, I believe that Alta left Iowa with her to go to OK.  Wm "Lester" had originally left with her as well, but he ended up living in Kansas for a period of time before going back to Iowa.  Of the Lee children, he is the only one I don't have a date of death for, but I suspect he died in either Kansas or OK. due to his place of burial.   William Lee, Fostina's father, is buried at Fairport Cemetery in Fairport, Muscatine Co, Iowa.  However a marker for his gravesite has not been found nor is it listed in the burial records there (as are any of the Lee children that were buried there).

Fostina was listed in one census record as a "healer".  Edward of course owned a harness shop.

I had called the courthouse there in Medford to see if there were estate papers for either Fostina or Edward.  I was told there were no wills for either but that there were estate papers for Fostina, none for Edward.  The cost of the entire packet of estate papers was, at that time, $250.  I have only a small portion of what apparently was a very long process in getting her estate settled. Apparently there was some sort of dispute among her children over her property, so I have no idea when it was finally drawn to some sort of conclusion among them."

Note-1: Dave Addleman (oldest son of Mary-7), February 2009 - "It’s always interesting to learn of other “relatives.”  Uncle Charley and Aunt Vera loomed large in our young lives.  I remember Uncle Charley racing me when I was about eight years old — he would run backwards to my forward.  His store was an icon in our family, where we always got a 10% discount.  Aunt Vera was my mother’s older sister and they remained close after Charley died and Vera lived in Newport Beach and my mother lived in Huntington Beach.  We’ve kept in touch with their daughter, Bernice, but have lost track of their son, Robert (we called him Buddy).  Bernice lives upstate California in Manton, about 50 miles east of Redding, CA.  We grew up next door to her in Riverside, CA, and I mowed her lawn during WWII while her husband Albert Karnesky was fighting in the Pacific.  Albert is the person who taught me how to work; we dug ditches, put in sprinkler systems, built cement-block walls, etc.   We were close until I went off to college, then the navy, after which I worked in Aerospace and retired from Boeing Aircraft Company."

Note-2: Jane Short, email <jane.gary@sbcglobal.net>, June 20, 2009: "My name is Jane Short and I am the great-great granddaughter of Wm Lee, father of Fostina Lee Strohmeier. Fostina was of course the mother of Charles Strohmeier who married Vera Bobo.  I have a lot of information on Fostina's family and a bit on the Strohmeier's if you would like to learn more about them."

Bernice Karnesky emailed as a family historian, "There is news of the Karnesky family: The last Friday of April our second grandson defended his thesis at Caltech. James Alan Karnesky has earned his PhD degree in Aeronautical Engineering (I think his specialty is fuels?) Jim graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2003. During his four years there he earned two degrees in three majors (Aeronautical - Mechanical Engineering, and Mathematics - Magna Cum Laude.) He was offered three opportunities to continue his studies. He chose Caltech and in 9 months had earned a Masters. Now, after years of research, he has received his PhD degree and gone to Ohio for a job in Aerospace industry. He has promised his mother that he will return to California at graduation time to accept the symbols of his degree." A big congratulations to James Alan Karnesky for his extremely difficult educational degrees!
