This 1870 Bethel Twp., Monroe Co., OH Census excerpt was provided by Jaquita Trogdon

It says "East of Lebanon" and shows Seth Adams and his family,
as well as his son Harvey Adams and his family.

1. Hall, Michael V., Sr. Email 25 June 2000 Land Records. George Adams of Belmont Co., OH sold 2 deeds to Seth Adams: 20 acres in Washington Co., OH in 1843 & 48 acres in Monroe Co., OH in 1862.

2. Dakin, Harley P. GED file on Ancestry.com, 20 June 2000. [Originally from Mike Hall to Vera Knowlton.]

3. Trogden, Jaquita. Email 8 Aug 2002 (data about McClead and Rinard from Peggy Cox - xocgep@yahoo.com).

[Note-1: Ermest Eabicht emailed, "I first saw the name "Harvey Holland" in the Bloomfield, Washington Co., OH Census. He was an attorney from NY and a J.P. His name was on Thomas Mulinex's (from Guernsey Co., OH) legal papers. Harvey H. Adams was born in Liberty Twp., which is close to Bloomfield. This may not mean anything but it is something to consider."

Note-2: Ritchie Co., WV Death Records indicated SARAH EMILY ADAMS was a daughter of SETH & MARY (MILLS) ADAMS (ca 1855) and thatJOHN CLIVE ADAMS was a son of SETH & MARY ("CLIVE") ADAMS (1858). It is now clear that the undertaker wrote in the wrong maiden name in 1942 for the mother at John Clive Adams death. This was 28 years after Mary Mills Adams, aka Mary "Clive" Adams, passed away in Goose Creek, Ritchie Co., WV and was buried in Ingram Ridge Cemetery. This w as researched by Gerald Bills - Gebills@aol.com.]

[Note-3: Adams genealogist, Jaquita Trogdon, from the Jenks, OK branch had 3 daughters listed as children of Seth and Mary Adams: MOLLY, LOUISA E (1845) & LUCINDA J. (1847).

Note-4: A "LOUISA ELLEN ADAMS" married Milton McClead 25 Jul 1872 (Washington Co., OH -- from Washington Co., OH Marriages, Vol. 1.

Note-5: A "SETH ADAMS" was among the first settlers of Bethel Twp., Monroe Co., OH after it was organized on 5 Mar 1832 (see Monroe Co., OH History). He's probably an adult -- possibly born after 1814?

Note-6: A "SETH ADAMS" was in the 1870 Census Index for Bethel Twp., Monroe Co., age 47, born in OH. He would have been born in approximately 1823 (our Seth?).

Note-7: Next dwelling to Seth & Mary Adams in 1850 were GEORGE ADAMS 52 VA & ABAGAIL ADAMS 49 OH and family; MARY A., 22, ELIZABETH 18, GEORGE W 17, JAMES M. 11, RHODA 8 & NANCY J. 5. Are they his parents? (Link to George Adams theoretical section, possible father of Seth Adams.)

Note-8: Unvalidated family history reported "John & Molly Adams, children of Seth Adams were reported "missing" from Johnstown, Cambria Co., PA." This may have been the flood that occurred on 31 May 1889. (Also, is Johnstown, Cambria Co., PA the location where this OH branch of the family originally lived? Many with the Adams surname lived in Johnstown, PA before 1889.)

Note-9: Trogden, Jaquita. Email 12 July 09: "Seth Adams (1823) married Mary Mills. His brother Isaac (1825) married Mary's sister Lucretia Mills her birthday was July 6, 1826 and she died on Sept. 12, 1863. Mary and Lucretia's parents were Robert and Patience Mills. Lucretia died and Isaac remarried to a Mary I thought her name was Dullman but someone else is saying that it was Staats, anyway they were married on May 27, 1868 in Marietta Ohio."

[NOTE-1: The WV Death Register entry for Mary Adams' maiden name was blank in 1914. In 1942, the undertaker filled in John Clive Adams mother's name as "Mary Clive Adams." Gerald Bills wondered if someone assumed her maiden name from her son's middle name - John Clive Adams. He also observed there were no obituaries found for John or his mother, Mary Adams.] In 2002, there is some question as to the validity of the middle name. Is it "CLIVE" or "CLINE"?
