Mary Mills AdamsThis old cardboard picture was saved by Josephine (Adams) Addleman (1867-1955) of her grandmother, MARY (MILLS) ADAMS (1823-btw 1855-58).

Seth and Mary (Mills) Adams lived in Monroe & Noble Counties, Ohio. They were also in Scottown, Oh, possibly on their way to Ritchie Co., WV.

Their son, Harvey Holland Adams (1844-1926), married Margaret Jane Mulinex on 25 Feb 1869 in Saltpetre, Washington Co., OH. Harvey lived out his final days in Macksburg, Washington Co., OH.

Harvey & Jane had six children: Josephine ADDLEMAN, Robirdie WEEKLEY, Lenora ADKISON, William, Harry, Effie BURT & Charles. They also raised Edna Mae (Adams) McKee, Josie's daughter, as their own.

[Notice the physiological characteristics of the ears on the pictures of Mary Mills Adams, the one below that is believed to be of Seth Adams and the one of Harvey H. Adams.]

Is this old tintype a picture of Seth Adams? Seth was born in 1823 in Ohio and died between 1870-80 in Ritchie Co., WV. He was married to Mary Mills and they had 12 children. (The assumption that he married again to a Mary Clive is erroneous.)

At Seth & Mary (Mills) Adams son's (Harvey H. Adams, 1844) 1926 funeral in Macksburg, Washington Co., OH, only 4 siblings attended: Seth, Jr., John, Charles W., and Mrs. William Sinnett.

Shafers Methodist Episcopal Church is where the early Adams family attended and also where many of the family were buried. It is located in Noble county and just a short distance from Macksburg, Ohio.

Civil War soldier Harvey H. Adams & wife HARVEY HOLLAND ADAMS, son of SETH & MARY (MILLS) ADAMS, was born 31 Oct 1844 in Liberty Twp., Monroe Co., Ohio and died 2 Oct 1926 in Macksburg, Washington Co., Ohio. He was buried in Shafers M.E. Church Cemetery which is near to Macksburg but located over the line in Noble County, Ohio.

His family worked in the oil business in and around Volcano, Ritchie Co., WV.

His Civil War enlistment was on 14 Aug 1861 at Parkersburg, WV in Co. G, 36th Reg., Ohio Vol. Inf. His first discharge was on 27 July 1865 at Wheeling, WV. His pension application indicated he enlisted a second time and earned the rank of corporal. He was granted in pension in 1907. (The G.A.R. emblem and flag are behind the stone.)

He married MARGARET JANE MULINEX on 25 Feb 1869 in Saltpetre, Washington Co., OH. They had at least 7 children: JOSEPHINE ADDLEMAN, ROBIRDIE C. WEEKLY, LENORA C. ADKISON, WILLIAM E., HARRY B., EFFIE M. BURT, & CHARLES F.

Margaret Adams was born Nov 1846 in Ohio and died in 1915, according to the obituary, in Macksburg, Ohio. (Notice the year on the stone does not match the obit.)

Note: Seth Adams (1823) was the younger brother of John A. (1819) and later, the uncle of George (1844) below. Also, cousins Harvey H. (1844) & George Adams (1844) were both born in the same year.
Notice both families lived in the same locations or near to each other in WV and OH.

Last Adams Family Reunion
(South-Eastern Ohio)

Was 8-11-1939 & 8-10-1942 ("no more for the duration of the war") the last family reunion for the Adams (George-2 line of descent) with 151 members in attendance? There were: Adams, Knowltons, McCurdys, McMullins, Halls, Rinards and many others at Civitan Park in Marietta, Washington County, Ohio.

This picure was rediscovered by Adams descendant researcher, Mary Bodenhamer. It is believed to have been around 1894. It was analyzed by Jaquita Trogdon.
