1. Knowlton, Vera Morgan & Hall, Michael V., Sr. Email 22 June 2000 to Jaquita Trogdon. Vera provided a text file of her database. [Mike Hall sent a lot of his extensiveAdams Belmont & Washington Co., research to Vera.]

2. Family Tradition (unproven). Several lines of descent from Harvey Adams (1844) have reported a line of descent from President John Quincy Adams. This has never been validated to our knowledge.

3. Hall, Michael V., Sr & Lewin, Charlotte. Emails, 25 June 2000. Mike Hall has extensive deed research for Adams in Belmont, Washington & Monroe Co., OH. Charlotte also shared her deed info on Belmont Co., OH Land Patents - Deed Bk 139, p. 420. [You'll see implied relationships between several families listed below.]

4. Hall, Michael V., Sr. Mail, Adams Census & Death Data, 7 July 2000. [In 1880 Ludlow Twp., Wash. Co., OH, "George Adams fil 83 OH OH OH" was living with Elizabeth (Adams) & husband, Ezra McMullen et al.]

5. Charlotte Lewin wrote that "Jane Kirkbride Ward was listed on the tax lists with Seth [Ward] but she was the widow of Aaron Ward and was later married to William Powell in 1813. Since they were both in York Township, it leads me to believe there is a connection between Aaron and Seth."

6. Eabicht, Ernest. Email 11 Jun 2000. "Found in my notes: 1860 census Masterton, Bethel Twp., Monroe Co., OH -- George Adams, age 67, farmer, OH, wife Anna 53, Ruth 20, Jane 15." Liberty cemetery, just south of the county line in Washington Co., "Anna wife of Samuel Sample, then wife of George Adams, d 6 Apr 1870 in the 69th year of her age."

7. Hall, Michael V., Sr. Email 25 June 2000 Deaths & Stones.

8. Lindsay, Ruth. Email 15 June 2000. "Could my GEORGE and his brother LEWIS be living with their parents, JOHN A. ADAMS & ELIZABETH POWELL, and the other children living with GEORGE & ABIGAIL?" -- RBLindsay@worldnet.att.net.

9. Hall, Michael V., Sr, Email, 25 June 2000 - Land Records. Joseph Powell sold 23 plus acres (S36T3R6) in Washington Co., OH to George Adams 30 Apr 1836 for $100.

10. Hall, Michael V., Sr. Email 25 June 2000 Deaths & Stones. [Mike found the death certificate for Isaac Adams ("no genealogical data") and will data. He also has death certificates for George Adams, Sr., George W. Adams, John Adams, Jr. (son of John & Mary Adams), Nancy Jane Adams & Rhoda Adams.]

NOTE: Ed Adams, email, 2 Sept 2002. "Does anyone have the age of George when he died? The reason I ask is that in the 1860 census of Bethel Twp, Monroe Co., taken 28 June 1860, George Adams is recorded as 67, Abba(Anna) as 52. If George was born 23 March, that would make him being born in 1793 (easily read as 1798 in old papers) As for Abba at 52, that probably should read 62 which would make her birth 1798. If she was only 52 in 1860, she would have been married at age eleven in 1819. I have not researched George in those years he lived in other counties, so perhaps there is evidence to contradict the 1860 Monroe Co. census. In the same census, Seth was 36, Mary 36, Harvey H. 15, Louisa Ellen 14, Lucinda J. 12, John C. 10, Seth 8, James M 6, Sarah E. 4 & Charles W. 1."

Note: Some of this data was corrected according to Jaquita Trogdon's research May 2004.

I'm wondering if there might be some relationship to your branch of the Adams family. I'm trying to track down as much information as possible. The best source would have been my father, but I didn't get interested until after he'd passed away. Any information you might have would be most apprecated. . . . I noticed that Mary Adams was buried in the Ingram Ridge cemetery. My grandparents, Arnold and Florence Adams, are buried in the cemetery, right next to the picnic table just behind the church. My father grew up on Ingram Ridge, just a short drive from the cemetery. We visited the cemetery last August and drove out the ridge. The house is gone, but an old oil derrick remains." 6. Morris, Marlene. Email 11 Jan 2005. " Our great-grandfather, GEORGE ADAMS, was born on 6/19/1844 and died on 11/20/1938. He had one sister, JANE McCURDY, three brothers, JIMMY ADAMS, LEWIS ADAMS, and WILL ADAMS."

"George & Nancy Jane ADAMS were natives of Monroe County, OH. They moved to Ritchie County WV in 1878. They were successful farmers and owned 144 acres that was heavily timbered when they settled there. To help pay for the land, they sold crossties, whoop poles and tanbrk. They hauled it to the Ohio River for market. George & Nancy sold the farm in WV and moved to 200 Ingleside Avenue, Marietta, Ohio. They built a nice two-story home and owned several additional lots for gardening, in about 1902. The home had five bedrooms and a full basement. They had their own water and cistern."

"Please feel free to use whatever you need for your website. I've sent more photos than you will want, but I think there are some photos that would be of interest and would fill in the gaps for soe of the Adams kin. The obituary for ARNOLD ADAMS (date of death: 6/2/1939) says he was the last Adams in Ritchie County. He was also described as "one of Ritchie County's best citizens." Unfotunately, all that has survived is one paragraph of the obituary. Thank you so much for setting up a web site and coordinating the information. I've had great success in tracing my dad's mother's side of the family, and I was surprised to find an Adams site already up and running."

Best wishes,

Children of George W. Adams

Vera Knowlton sent the bible pages through email on 25 Aug 2002.

"These pages were taken from the Bible, believed to belong to GEORGE W. ADAMS (1857-1945). The bible was destroyed after examination -- the pages were very rotten. The book was years old with pages missing. . . .

This was given by George Thomas Adams to his son Lawrence Paton Adams.

Etta & Oscar Adams were buried somewhere back of St. Marys, West Virginia."
